ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE - ORAL
(uh-LEW-mih-num hi-DROX-ide)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Alu-Cap, Alu-Tab, Amphojel, Dialume
USES: Aluminum hdyroxide is an antacid. It reduces stomach acid relieving heartburn and indigetsion. It is used to treat an upset stomach, ulcers, hiatal hrenia or other digestive troubles.
OTHER USES: This mdeication may also be used to treat high phosphate levels.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication as directed uusally between meals and at bedtime. Do not take more than is prescribed. Too much antacid can actually raise the amount of acid the stomach produces.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally well tolreated. Loss of appeitte or constipation may occur. Notify your doctor if you develop: vomit that looks like coffee grounds, dark tar-like stools. If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: stomach disorders, allergies (especially drug allergies). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Small amounts of that medication may be excreted in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, especially of: iron, oral anti-diabetic medication, tetracycline, digoxin. Antacdis can interfere with the absorption of many other drugs. Be sure to check with your pharmacist before taking anatcids with any other medication. Do not start or stop any medicine wihtout doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overodse is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include constipation.
NOTES: This medication is avaliable in various forms: liquid, suspension, capsules or tablets. Some of the liquids may be more pleaasnt tasting than others. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to help sleect the best product for you.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosnig schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 dgerees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture.
Do not store in the bathroom.
